Among the many facets of French dance, Catherine Diverrès represents a certain poetry of restlessness, and is dedicated to issues such as the search for a personal expressive vocabulary, the relationship between performers and space, and the consideration of the role artists plays in contemporary society.
She studied at Maurice Béjart’s Mudra School in Brussels, where she met Bernardo Montet, they worked together as a choreography duo until 1998. Between 1994 and 2008 she was Director of the National Choreographic Centre of Rennes and Brittany, and her studies alongside Kazuo Ohno in Japan played a pivotal role in the development of her vocabulary. With Blowin’ she chooses to explore the open and direct relationship between dance and music, and gives precedence to the moment and her dancers, favouring improvisation over choreography and composition.
